P. Thoms

  1. Describe your career field.
    I teach and study the way people behave in organizations. I talk about how to effectively manage other people.

  2. How did you become interested in this field?
    Due to my work experience. I kept thinking that there must be better ways to do things.

  3. What education did you have to obtain - how many years, what major, degrees?
    I have a Bachelor's degree in elementary education, a Master's in Educational Supervision, a Master's in Labor and Human Resources, and a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior.

  4. What were you favorite subjects in school?
    Social studies, English, Geometry

  5. What's everyday life like in your field?
    I teach and do research. I talk to lots of people and write.

  6. How do you balance a family and career?
    My career is very flexible. As long as I teach my classes and continue to publish research, I can set my own schedule. I can also take time off in the summer and during holidays to take care of my 2 sons. I often hold meetings at my home. My sons get involved in the college activities too.

  7. What's the coolest thing about your career?
    Teaching and flexibility.

  8. Anything you would like to add?
    The dues that one pays to be a college professor are high, but the rewards make it worthwhile.
