DEGREE PROGRAMS AT PENN STATE BEHREND

The college offers thirty-two baccalaureate, six associate, and two master’s degree programs through its four schools:

CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

In addition to degree programs the college offers certificate programs in business (advanced business, business communications, business management, and general business; crime, psychology, and public policy; financial planning; mechanical engineering technology; and SAP.

CENTER FOR ADULT STUDENTS

The center provides advocacy for and oversees the college’s options for the adult learner pursuing higher education, ranging from one course to enhance work skills or looking for a degree program. Several programs are specifically designed for completion in an evening time frame, including baccalaureate degree programs in management and general arts & sciences, and associate degree programs in mechanical engineering technology, liberal arts & sciences, and general business.

CORPORATE AND CONTINUING EDUCATION AND TRAINING

The college’s Center for Continuing Education provides customized education and training for corporate and individual clients, including credit programs, conferencing, on-site organizational and professional development programs, and meeting facilitation.

Program offerings include such things as design of experiments, lean manufacturing, project management, Six Sigma, safety, supervisory skills, teambuilding, and all aspects of plastics technology.

Contact the CE office at 814-898-6103 to set up a meeting with a staff representative to discuss your training needs, desired training outcomes, and other issues relevant to designing a program for your organization.

ACCESS TO GRADUATES

Through partnerships with Penn State Behrend’s faculty, staff, and students, company representatives may have enhanced exposure to students and consequently, enhanced opportunity to recruit students.  A major opportunity for recruitment of students occurs during the Annual Fall Career Fair, where companies set up booths and have the opportunity to meet informally with potential employees.

Formal student recruitment and interviewing is coordinated through the Career Development Center. Employers can post job openings on the Job Opening Bulletin Board at Penn State Behrend or contact the center at 814-898-6164 for more details.  

ACCESS TO PART-TIME EMPLOYEES

STUDENT INTERNSHIPS

Internships are considered professional, career-related experiences in a business or industry setting. Student interns can bring fresh and creative ideas to an organization at a nominal cost, while allowing company representatives to evaluate the interns as potential full-time employees. Internships are coordinated through the Career Development Center. Contact the center at 814-898-6164 or post your internship on the Web site.

ENGINEERING CAPSTONE PROJECTS

All senior students in engineering and engineering technology degree programs are required to conduct team-oriented capstone projects.  Each project must address an actual design or manufacturing problem that is sponsored by regional industry.  The students work alongside representatives of industry to formulate and implement solutions.  More than fifty student teams are available annually.  Contact the School of Engineering at 814-898-6153 or the Senior Projects Web site for more details.

SERVICE AND VOLUNTEERISM

Many students engage in substantive community-based service projects. The Center for Service Leadership holds a volunteer fair each fall to assist local community-based organizations in recruiting students. Contact the center at 814-898-6609 for more details.

CONFERENCING AND MEETING FACILITIES

  • Erie Hall features a single gymnasium that can hold up to 1,000 theater style and 500 for meals.
  • Knowledge Center includes a large meeting room for sixty, a boardroom for fourteen, a second meeting room for thirty, and an informal "great" room with fireplace. The center is equipped with the latest distance telecommunications and audiovisual equipment, a catering kitchen, and a series of wooden decks overlooking the forest.
  • Black Conference Hall holds up to 200.
  • Junker Center holds up to 2,500.
  • McGarvey Commons holds up to 475 theater style and 270 for meals.
  • General Classrooms for twenty-five to eighty.
