ERIE INSURANCE GROUP CREATES LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

Erie Insurance Group has pledged $300,000 to endow the Erie Insurance Group Leadership Scholarship at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. Outstanding undergraduates who are enrolled or planning to enroll in the mathematics program or the management information systems program at Behrend will be eligible to apply for the scholarship, which will be given for the first time this spring.

"We are deeply grateful to Erie Insurance for this investment that will forever benefit students and create a pool of skilled employees for the region," said Behrend Provost and Dean Dr. John M. Lilley. "This scholarship will lead to many talented Penn State Behrend graduates remaining in Erie and securing good jobs in actuarial science, communications, computer science, management information systems, mathematics, and related areas at Erie Insurance Group and throughout northwestern Pennsylvania."

"Many outstanding Erie Insurance employees have graduated from Penn State Behrend," said Stephen A. Milne, ERIE president and chief executive officer. "Finding qualified employees, particularly in the areas of information technology and actuarial sciences, is a significant issue in today's marketplace. Relationships like the one we have with Penn State Behrend help us establish connections with outstanding candidates early in their career development."

Erie Insurance Group endowed this scholarship for students who have achieved superior academic records or who show promise of outstanding academic success. First preference for the scholarship will be given to children of Erie Insurance Group employees.

Additional contributions to this scholarship may be made by interested persons or organizations. For more information about this and other scholarships, call the Penn State Behrend Office of Admissions and Financial Aid at (814) 898-6100 or check the college's Web site at www.pserie.psu.edu.
