BEHREND ADVISING GUIDE EARNS NATIONAL RECOGNITION

A newly created advising handbook at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has been selected to receive a national award from the National Academic Advising Association. The book was named the Outstanding Publication Certificate of Merit (Advisor Category) recipient in NACADA's 2002 awards program.

The 226-page publication details courses of study for each of the college's twenty-nine undergraduate degrees, five associate degrees, and two master's degrees.

The Penn State Behrend Advising Handbook was designed to promote vital communication not only at the local college, but also to assist advisors at Penn State's twenty-two other locations as they direct students from other locations to Penn State Behrend. It was judged on the basis of content, presentation, clarity, and creativity.

The Penn State Behrend Advising Handbook is one of only three publications to be honored in the Advisor Category. The volume was developed as a collaboration of Penn State Behrend's Division of Undergraduate Studies, headed by Michael D. Chiteman, and the Office of University Relations, directed by Edward F. Blaguszewski.
