8-26-03 SEPTEMBER 13 FESTIVALS AT FRONTIER FOCUS ON ENVIRONMENT Adults and children of Erie will have an opportunity to enjoy and learn more about the environment on Saturday, September 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at daylong festivals sponsored by the Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park (L.E.A.F.) and the Lake Erie Environmental Education Partnership. The two events, L.E.A.F. Festival and Coastal Connections, bring together activities and displays that celebrate land, water, and all living things. Admission to all events is free. In addition to food and live music by Ishcabaha, Erie's fun Celtic band, the day includes a Great Lakes Carnival and live animals presented by Pennsylvania Sea Grant; children's games and crafts presented by Lake Erie Allegheny Earth Force; watershed art activities by the Lake Erie Region Conservancy; a 'learn to cast' children's game by S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie; 'Who Wants to be an Environmentalist?' presented by Asbury Woods Nature Center; children's beach art presented by Presque Isle State Park; and hands-on watershed activities by the DEP. Baker Creek Watershed Association and the Junior Pennsylvania Lake Erie Watershed Association will have displays, and participants will be able to take a 'nautical mile' walk. Lectures on gardening and planting will be offered during the day, as well as children's crafts, a children's tree climb, antique truck rides, and more. The Lake Erie Environmental Education Partnership is a partnership among organizations that design, develop, and deliver environmental education in the northwest region of Pennsylvania. Its members include Asbury Woods Nature Center, Pennsylvania Sea Grant, Bayfront Center for Maritime Studies, L.E.A.F., Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and Lake Erie Allegheny Earth Force. Parking for Coastal Connections and the L.E.A.F. Festival will be available off Greengarden Boulevard and West 8th Street. For more information about the L.E.A.F.
