COMPOSTING WORKSHOP
AT PENN STATE BEHREND SEPTEMBER 16

The Greener Behrend Task Force at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will sponsor a free composting workshop on Tuesday, September 16, at 6:00 p.m. in Room 117 of the Reed Union Building. Presented by Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Penn State Cooperative Extension, and Penn State Behrend, the workshop is limited to fifty registrants. For more information and to make reservations for the workshop, contact the Erie County Cooperative Extension office at 825-0900.

Each person who pre-registers for the September 16 workshop and attends will receive a free composting bin, as long as supplies last. To attend workshops and receive a free bin, you must pre-register by Monday, September 8.

"Much of the organic waste generated by households can be used to start a home composting pile, and the final compost product can be used as a nutrient source for lawns and gardens," said Thomas Wortman, Ph.D., chair of the Greener Behrend Task Force. "Composting is something all homeowners can do to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills. We must continue to find more efficient and economical ways to recycle our resources if we are to become a truly sustainable society."

The location at Penn State Behrend is accessible for persons with disabilities. If you need specific accommodations, please indicate that when you pre-register.

For more information about composting, contact DEP's compost coordinator at (717) 787-7382, or visit the DEP website at www.dep.state.pa.us (directLINK "dep composting"). Information on composting workshops in each county can be found at http://backyardcompost.cas.psu.edu.
