LOCAL INSTITUTE TO PRESENT ECONOMIC FORECAST

Less than a week after it rolled out a new Web site, www.ERIEdata.org, the Economic Research Institute of Erie is on the road again. This time co-directors Dr. Barry R. Weller and Dr. James A. Kurre are headed for the Manufacturer's Association of Erie, 2172 West 38th Street, where they will present their fall economic forecast on Thursday, December 18. Tickets for the 8:00 a.m. presentation, which includes breakfast, are $30, and participants may register online at www.manp.org.

Weller and Kurre have been presenting annual and semiannual forecasts on the local economy since 1985. Their organization, the Economic Research Institute of Erie (ERIE) was founded by the two Penn State Behrend economics professors in 1982 as an applied research unit of Penn State Erie's School of Business. The Institute's research results are published and distributed in the ERIE Technical Reports series and through articles in the regional media. The Institute also compiles bibliographies of data and other information relevant to the Erie area. These bibliographies are periodically updated as new sources of information are brought to the attention of Institute staff members. Institute Technical Reports, articles and bibliographies are available to the general public at www.ERIEdata.org.

The Institute's ongoing research program is made possible through the support and cooperation of several groups both within and outside of the University. Financial support for the establishment of the Institute was provided in part by a grant from the Manufacturer's Association of Northwest Pennsylvania. The Manufacturer's Association continues to be a strong supporter of ERIE, along with the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership. Additional support in the form of data contributions or funding for commissioned studies has been provided by various agencies and groups, including the Erie Community Foundation and the United Way of Erie County.
