STREETER NAMED PRESIDENT-ELECT OF ECAC

Brian F. Streeter, director of Athletics at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has been named president-elect of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC), which serves Divisions I, II, and III colleges and universities in locations from Maine to North Carolina. He will serve as president in the 2004-2005 academic year.

"Accepting this position allows me to ensure that the voice of Division III schools will be heard," said Streeter. "One of my key goals is to improve communication among the ECAC members schools and to their athletic directors and coaches."

"At Penn State Erie we are well aware of Brian Streeter's strong leadership skills," said Dr. Jack Burke, campus executive officer and dean. "I'm delighted that the ECAC members have chosen him as their leader, and I am confident his service will strengthen the organization."

Streeter has been a member of the ECAC since he attended his first meeting in 1983, and he has seen the organization grow to 317 members. The conference now administers 111 championships in thirty-five men's and women's sports for more than 125,000 student-athletes. This year ECAC officiating bureaus assigned more than 40,000 officials in fifteen sports. ECAC members comprise 32 percent of the membership of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and the conference plays an active role in national collegiate athletics policy and legislation.

Streeter noted that as with all non-profit organizations, ECAC has to work hard to maintain financial support for championships. He will encourage the organization to continue reaching out to business and industry to support the efforts of student-athletes.

"Bottom line, we are here to serve student-athletes and our member institutions," said Streeter. He also plans to reach out to new athletic directors and coaches as they learn the best ways to encourage student-athletes and strengthen their teams.

Streeter came to Penn State Erie to serve as director of Athletics in 1997. Prior to that, he was assistant athletics director and head basketball coach at Hobart College. He received his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and his master's degree from Ithaca College. He is a board member of the American Red Cross, a member of the NCAA National Men's Water Polo Committee, a board member of the East Erie Kiwanis Club, and a member of the Pennsylvania State Basketball Advisory Committee for Special Olympics.
