FORMER CNBC ECONOMIST LAUNCHES
2003-2004 SPEAKER SERIES AT PENN STATE BEHREND

Dr. Marci Rossell, who most recently served as chief economist for CNBC, will kick off the Speaker Series at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, on Tuesday, September 23. Her presentation, which takes place in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Union Building at 7:30 p.m., is free and open to the public.

Rossell's message is that corporate America-the child of democracy and free markets-gives jobs to people, puts food on their tables, and is the greatest generator of wealth the world has ever devised. Her experience lets her speak from both the head and the heart on the economy, investing, globalization, and trade. Insightful and energizing, Rossell gives her audiences the latest inside perspectives on the U.S. economic situation.

As chief economist for CNBC, Rossell appeared every morning on the network's flagship program, Squawk Box, and covered the economy and corporate America throughout the day. She also appeared weekly on CNBC Europe Market Wrap as an expert commentator on the U.S. economy.

By the time she was 32, Rossell had been chief economist for CNBC, economist and spokesperson for Oppenheimer Funds, a litigation consultant for Deloitte and Touche, and an economist for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. She holds a Ph.D. and a bachelor's degree in economics and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University.

All Speaker Series presentations take place in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Union Building at 7:30 p.m. They are free and open to the public. The series is sponsored by the Student Activity Fee, the Sam and Irene Black School of Business, the Janet Neff Sample Center for Manners and Civility, and the Harriet Behrend Ninow Memorial Lecture Series Fund. It has twice won the National Association for Campus Activities' Best Lecture Series Award.

An interpreter for deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members will be visible at each lecture, and assistive listening devices are available upon request from the Office of Student Activities at (814) 898-6171. These services are made possible through funding from Penn State's Equal Opportunity Planning Committee. All lectures are also taped for broadcast on AM1450/WPSE Penn State Erie radio, and on 91.3 WQLN-FM.
