9-04-03 FICTION WRITER OPENS CREATIVE WRITERS SERIES AT BEHREND Fiction writer Melanie Rae Thon will open Penn State Behrend's Creative Writers Speaker Series on Thursday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m. with a reading in the Smith Chapel. Her appearance is free and open to the public. Thon's most recent novel is Sweet Hearts (Washington Square Press, 2002). She is also the author of Meteors in August and Iona Moon and the story collections Girls in the Grass and First, Body. Thon has taught at Emerson College, Syracuse University, the University of Massachusetts, and the Ohio State University. She divides her time between the pacific Northwest and Salt Lake City, where she teaches at the University of Utah. The Creative Writers Speaker Series is co-sponsored by the Mary Behrend Cultural Fund, the Clarence and Eugenie Baumann Smith Fund, and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
