02-19-04 TAYLOR APPOINTED TO HEAD DEVELOPMENT Margaret Taylor has been named Director of Development at Penn State Behrend and began her duties Monday, February 16. She previously held the position of Director of Institutional Advancement at the Mont Alto campus of Penn State. "I am pleased to welcome Margie Taylor to Penn State Behrend and to Erie," said Dr. Jack Burke, campus executive officer and dean. "Her experience in fundraising and economic development will be a benefit to us, and her years with Penn State will make our transition smooth." In her four years at Mont Alto, Taylor helped the campus raise $5.6 million for the Grand Destiny Campaign. In addition to fundraising, she chaired the Mont Alto Centennial Committee and oversaw the work of alumni, marketing, and publications staff. Prior to Monte Alto, she was executive director of the Fulton Industrial Development Association in McConnellsburg, Pa., where she secured federal, state, and private funding to develop the first industrial park in rural Fulton County. Before that she was executive director of Fulton County Economic Development Corporation, where she led a start-up organization that implemented an economic recovery plan for that region. From 1991 to 2001 Taylor and her family restored and maintained the McConnellsburg Inn, a 1907 National Historic Register property. For a decade prior to that, she served as director of marketing and public affairs at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa. Taylor is a communications graduate of Shippensburg University. She earned a certificate in economic and community development from Penn State's Institute for Public Affairs and the designation of certified economic development finance professional from the National Development Council. She completed a Penn State University certificate in fundraising and attended two John Brown seminars on major and planned gifts. Taylor's volunteer service includes board membership with the Kittochtinny Historical Society, the Pennsylvania Economic Development Association, the Fulton County Medical Center, and the Friends of the Fulton County Library.
