PENN STATE BEHREND PRESENTS SEMINAR
ON TOOL WEAR AND EXTENDING TOOL LIFE

Dr. John Roth, assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Penn State Behrend, will lecture on "Understanding Tool Wear and Extending Tool Life to Reduce Production Costs in Manufacturing" as part of the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET) Speaker Series. Dr. Roth's presentation will be held on Thursday, October 21, from noon-1:00 p.m. in the Reed Union Building, room 114. It is free and open to the public.

In manufacturing industries, tooling costs affect profits and a company's ability to compete in the marketplace. Research is being conducted at Penn State Behrend to determine how companies can extend tool life and reduce tool wear. A number of projects are currently under way, including the use of electrical energy to reduce wear and the use of cryogenic treatments to make tools last longer.

All seminars will be held in Reed 114 from noon-1:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month and will focus on applied research. For more information regarding the SEET Speaker Series, call the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology at 814-898-6125.
