Scholarship Program Offers HIgh School Students Discounted Penn State Tuition This summer, high school sophomores and juniors are invited to share the full Penn State Behrend academic experience—at half price. The college’s High School Dual Enrollment Scholarship Program permits qualified high school students who have completed their sophomore year but not yet graduated to take classes at Penn State Behrend and pay only 50 percent of in-state tuition. “What makes our program unique in the region is that the high school students take actual college courses alongside college students,” Mary-Ellen Madigan, director of admissions at Penn State Behrend, said of the scholarship program. “This gives them a realistic understanding of the demands of college academics, and helps them be better prepared when they do make the transition from high school to college.” In addition, the students earn college credits that can applied upon admission to Penn State, or are eligible for transfer to another institution. Penn State Behrend’s eight-week summer session begins June 14 and continues through August 2. Tuition costs differ by course, but most high school students will pay $645 for three college credits, Madigan said. High school students interested in learning more about the Dual Enrollment Scholarship Program should contact Madigan at 814-898-6100 or e-mail mea1@psu.edu. Information about two additional summer programs for high school students, Minority College Experience and Women in Science and Engineering, also is available from Madigan or on the Web at pserie.psu.edu/admissions/mcewise.htm.
