Dutch Carillonneur Opens Smith Series The summer Smith Carillon Concert Series at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, begins Thursday, July 13, with a performance by Dutch carillonneur Anne Kroeze. Kroeze, the appointed carillonneur for Emmeloord, Leeuwarden and Epe, The Netherlands, will play the college’s Floyd and Juanita Smith Carillon beginning at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Seating will be on the lawn of the John M. Lilley Library, so concertgoers are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket. Refreshments will be served. Kroeze has toured the United States five times and won international carillon competitions in Illinois and Winterswijk, The Netherlands. As a pianist and organist he is accompanist for three Dutch choirs and appointed organist in Emmeloord, Kampen and Vollenhove, The Netherlands. In Vollenhove, Kroeze plays a baroque organ built in 1686. The organ in Kampen dates to the 16th century. The following Thursday, July 20, the featured musician will be Clemson University carillonneur Linda Dzuris.
