“Look At Me” Next International Women’s Film “Look At Me” (“Comme Une Image”) will be the next presentation in the Penn State Behrend International Women’s Film Series. The film will be screened at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, in 117 Reed Union Building. Admission is free and open to the public. This 2004 film from French director Agnès Jaoui is both a sneak peek at the dark underside of Parisian culture and mediation on the imbalance of power common in family relationships. The movie revolves around Lolita, an overweight would-be singer with self-esteem issues and a father who is a famous writer but cold, distant dad. Further complicating Lolita’s life is a waifish stepmother only slightly older than herself and her father’s sycophant assistant. “It really ain't over till the fat lady sings in ‘Look At Me,’ a wonderfully witty and observant comedy-drama from writer-director Agnès Jaoui (previously responsible for the equally smart ‘The Taste Of Others’),” wrote one BBC film reviewer. “A film about power—in particular, the way people choose to misuse it within relationships—family tensions, and the monstrous egos at large in the arts world, this is as French as Camembert and Sacha Distel, only considerably less cheesy.” The International Women’s Film Series is sponsored by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Behrend.
