First Nursing Degree Admissions Information Session Scheduled

Monday, November 20

The first admissions information session for the new two-year associate degree in nursing program at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 20, in 117 Reed Union Building.

Applications are now being accepted for fall 2007 admission to the program; the application deadline for priority consideration is December 15. The information session is free and open to anyone potentially interested in applying to the program, and no reservations are necessary.

“Penn State’s research indicates that 20 percent of the registered nurses in our region will retire by 2015,” Mary-Ellen Madigan, the college’s director of admissions and financial aid, said. “Nursing offers wide-open opportunities for anyone interested in the field of heath care.”

The new associate degree is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing, and will be offered at Penn State Erie through the Penn State School of Nursing. The concentrated two-year curriculum includes a combination of science, liberal arts and focused nursing courses to prepare graduates for work in hospitals and long-term care facilities; it is open to both traditional college-age and adult students.

After earning the associate degree, Penn State Erie graduates are eligible to take the national licensing examination administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing to become a registered nurse.

For more information about the information session or the new nursing degree program, phone the Penn State Erie Office of Admissions at 814-898-6100 or visit www.pserie.psu.edu.
