Fall Choir Concert Singin' and Swingin' with the College Choir and Studio Singers Two facets of the choral music program at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will be showcased at its annual fall concert on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Union Building. The College Choir and the Studio Singers both will perform under the direction of Daniel Barnard, lecturer in music. The College Choir will present selections from traditional choral repertoire, including two spirituals, “There is a Balm in Gilead” and “Steal Away,” and two settings of poems, Emily Dickinson’s “Hope” and the cheeky haiku “Crickets and Commas.” The choir also will perform “From the End of the Earth” by American composer Alan Hovhaness. In addition to pianist Andrew Rainbow, its regular accompanist, the choir will be joined for some selections by college lecturer in music Gary Viebranz on euphonium and musicians Mari Howell and Jennifer Ashbaugh on clarinet and French horn. In the second half of the program, the swinging Studio Singers offer the lighter side of choral music with an a capella tribute to doo-wop. “Stand By Me,” “Come Go With Me,” and “Peter Gunn” will start toes tapping and memories flowing. Tickets for the concert are $5 for adults and $3 for students and are available at the door or at the Reed Union Building information desk. |
