Humanities Panel Discussion: "Iraq: Where Do We Go From Here?" The School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Janet Neff Sample Center for Manners and Civility at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will co-host the public panel discussion “Iraq: Where Do We Go From Here?” on Thursday, Nov. 2 The event will be held from 4 until 5:30 p.m. in 117 Reed Union Building on the Penn State Behrend campus. “Our goal is to help educate students and the community about the war in Iraq. We’re sponsoring this non-partisan event the week before the election in the hope that a civil discourse will help audience members clarify their own opinions,” Richard Aquila, director of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and panel moderator, said. “That’s not to say there won’t be disagreements. But, part of my job as moderator will be to remind participants that reasonable people can disagree about important issues and solutions. The important thing is for all of us to figure out a workable solution to this major political problem.” Members of the Penn State Behrend faculty panel will be Christopher Cook, assistant professor of political science, Ralph Eckert, associate professor of American history, Kim Young, instructor in journalism, Mel Sundin, assistant professor of communications, and Charles Brock, senior research associate in religious studies. “The faculty panel will discuss basic questions regarding the Iraq War such as causes, results, and—the main question—where do we go from here?” Aquila said. “The faculty discussion will take no more than half of the program, leaving plenty of time for questions and comments from the audience.” The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Behrend offers majors in history, political science, creative writing, English, psychology, and communications and media studies, as well as a pre-law curriculum and numerous interdisciplinary minors. The Janet Neff Sample Center for Manners and Civility was founded by Corry Journal publisher George Sample to foster civility-enriched academic experiences for Penn State Behrend students and the community.
