Holocaust Drama Subject of Reading, Discussion

“Darkness Visible,” a dramatic play that follows men forced to work in the crematorium at Auschwitz, will receive a staged reading by Penn State Behrend faculty and students on Wednesday, May 2.

The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the college’s Studio Theatre and be followed by an open discussion. Both are free and refreshments will be provided.

“Darkness Visible” was written by Chris Loss, an assistant professor of history at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Loss’ has said that his play is an attempt to capture the uncertainty and randomness of life and death in the Nazi camps, and examine the relationships that developed under such conditions.

The reading will be directed by Christine Mangone, lecturer in theatre, and performed by students Katelyn Gracey, Darius Martin, Patrick Sharbaugh, Mike Stenzel, Nick Wagers and Ryan Westwood. Archie Loss, professor of English and American studies and Chris’ father, will lead the post-reading discussion.

For additional information contact Mangone at 814-898-6304.
