Rhythms of Life Series Returns

Aztec dance, music on menu for September 12

Indigenous Aztec dance and music is on the menu for the first performance in the 2007-08 Rhythms of Life cultural series at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

Ollin Yoliztli Calmecac ensemble will perform between noon and 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Bruno’s Café, located on the second floor of the college’s Reed Union Building. The performance is free and open to the public, and a full menu of hot and cold lunch items will be available for purchase.

In the native Aztec language of Nahuatl, Ollin Yoliztli Calmecac means “school of the blood moving in the heart.” As part of its tribute to Aztec culture, the ensemble’s musicians and dancers honor the four corners of the planet with the Fire Dance, Eagle Dance, Antigua (“To the Ancestors”) Dance, and Dove Dance.

Ollin Yoliztli Calmecac’s performance is sponsored by the Penn State Behrend Office of Educational Equity and Diversity Programs and by the Student Activity Fee. For more information, contact the college’s Office of Student Activities at 814-898-6171 or visit the Rhythms of Life Web site at www.behrend.psu.edu/RhythmsofLife.
