Finance Alumni Invited to REDC Reception

Saturday, September 29

In conjunction with Alumni Reunion 2007, Penn State Behrend Finance graduates are invited back to campus for a Finance Alumni Reception hosted by Sam and Irene Black School of Business faculty.

Greg Filbeck, the Finance program chair, and Finance faculty Brian Boscaljon, Jessica Zhou, and Kay Johnson have planned an informal reception for Finance alumni and their guests from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 29. The reception is part of the college’s Alumni Reunion and concurrent Parents & Families Weekend, and will be held in the café of the Research and Economic Development Center (REDC).

“The faculty’s very excited about having an opportunity to re-acquaint ourselves with our graduates,” Filbeck said. “It’ll be a chance for alumni to chat with other graduates, catch up with their classmates, and see the wonderful new facilities the REDC makes available to the major’s current students.”

The Black School of Business relocated to the 160,000 square-foot REDC last August; the reception will include a tour of the classrooms and laboratories used by the Finance program, including a new simulated trading-floor lab. The room is equipped with the same financial-information technology used by Wall Street and institutional investors, and has access to Bloomberg and Reuters informational services. Brian Boscaljon, associate professor of finance, will offer a demonstration of the lab as a part of the reception.

Penn State Behrend’s baccalaureate Finance major was established in 1999 as a dedicated program of study in the principles of finance, namely financial management, investment, and financial markets. The program offers students the depth and breadth of knowledge needed to prepare for a variety of careers in finance, including financial analysis, portfolio management, financial planning, corporate finance, and banking. It is distinctive within Penn State for its emphasis on preparing students for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Financial Planning (CFP) designation.

In addition to the Finance Alumni Reception, a full day’s schedule of events will be offered on September 29; all are free of charge unless otherwise indicated. The morning’s activities include a golf outing at Harbor Ridge Golf Course, beginning at 8 a.m. ($25 per player), walking tours of campus and the Penn State Behrend Arboretum, plus the opportunity to return to class with fall planting and golf workshops.

Enjoy lunch on the lawn and circus activities in front of Reed Union Building—but save room for a mid-afternoon indulgence on Creamery ice cream while taking in the sounds of the Penn State Behrend Jazz Band. Feel free to hop on the bus for the Lake Shore wine tasting tour too, courtesy of the Penn State Behrend Alumni Society.

Celebrate the Behrend Lions of past and present throughout the day at one of six athletic events, including tennis, water polo, soccer and volleyball matches, and the Athletic Hall of Fame dinner. Then wrap up the evening with Chancellor Jack Burke’s reception before settling in for the awe-inspiring antics of Big Top Entertainment.

For more information on the Finance Alumni Reception or these additional events or to register, call the Penn State Behrend Alumni office at 814-898-6159 or click here. Attendance reservations should be made by Saturday, September 15.
