Ken Miller Wins 2007 John W. Beatty Award
Kenneth P. Miller, director of the Division of Student Affairs at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has been honored for his long-time service to the college’s students. Miller was this year’s recipient of the John W. Beatty Award for Outstanding Chief Student Affairs Officer. Penn State presents the award to recognize one individual who has demonstrated over a period of years a commitment to students as a mentor, adviser and counselor. Miller joined Penn State Behrend in 1988 as coordinator of residence life. He was named associate dean of student affairs in 1992, and assumed the division directorship in 1998. He supervises a staff of 40; initiatives developed under his supervision include creation of Freshman Interests Groups, a living-and-learning program that supports first-year students as they acclimate to college’s academic and social expectations; construction of the Penn State Behrend Child Care Center and Larry and Kathryn Smith Chapel; and numerous campus life projects that enhance the college experience for Penn State Behrend’s 4,000 students. Miller holds a doctoral degree in higher education administration from University of Pittsburgh, a master’s degree in college student personnel services from Miami University of Ohio, and an English degree from James Madison University. |
