Choirs’ Holiday Performance is Friday, November 30 Free admission for Penn State Behrend students!
New choir director D. Jason Bishop conducts rehearsal for the holiday choir performance. European and African tradition meet in the annual holiday performance by the Penn State Behrend Concert Choir and Chamber Choir. The concert takes place at 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, in the college’s Larry and Kathryn Smith Chapel. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for Penn State Behrend faculty and staff. They can be purchased at the Reed Union Building information desk and at the door. The choirs will perform under the direction of D. Jason Bishop, the college’s new director of vocal music. Bishop holds two advanced degrees in conducting, a doctorate from University of Oklahoma and a master’s from Boston University. “My first holiday program features Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria, probably one of the most popular pieces of choral music in existence,” Bishop says. “Even more popular is Handel’s Messiah, which the choir also will perform two choruses from that evening. Finally, our truly talented and versatile student singers will perform two African holiday pieces accompanied by traditional African drumming.” The choirs will be accompanied by guest instrumentalists and two soloists, soprano Margaret Andraso and alto Jean Lester. For more information about the choir performances, phone Bishop at 814-898-6078 or visit the college's online events calendar. |
