The Speaker Series

Animal Planet’s Jeff Corwin on Campus Thursday, November 1; Presentation moved to Junker Center

Zoologist and Emmy-winning television personality Jeff Corwin will share “Tales from the Field” during the next Speaker Series presentation at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

Corwin, best known as host of The Jeff Corwin Experience and Corwin’s Quest on the cable network Animal Planet, will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, in the Junker Center (new location). His presentation is free and open to the public.

Corwin will handle live reptiles during his talk, and afterwards will sign copies of his book, Living on the Edge: Amazing Relationships in the Natural World. The book will be available for purchase that evening in Penn State Behrend’s bookstore.

The Jeff Corwin Experience is one of the most popular shows on cable, and is seen in more than 70 countries. (Corwin’s newest television show, the eco-tourism series Into Alaska with Jeff Corwin, airs on Travel Channel.) In 2004, Corwin won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Series for Jeff Corwin Unleashed.

Corwin began working for the conservation of endangered species and ecosystems after an expedition to Belize at the age of 17. He later addressed the General Assembly of the United Nations regarding the need to conserve tropical rain forests, and served as expedition naturalist for The Jason Project, the acclaimed documentary series co-produced by National Geographic.

When not in the field, Corwin lectures on wildlife, ecology, and conservation to audiences across the United States. He also established an interactive museum and environmental education center called EcoZone. Located in Corwin’s childhood hometown of Norwell, Mass., EcoZone builds awareness of the wildlife and ecology unique to the wetlands of southeastern Massachusetts.

Corwin holds degrees in biology and anthropology from Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts, a master’s degree in wildlife and fisheries conservation from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and an honorary doctorate in public education from Bridgewater for his work advocating conservation and sustainable use of the world’s natural resources. He’s been included in People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People” list and Entertainment Weekly’s “It List,” and made a guest appearance as himself on the television series CSI: Miami.

Corwin’s appearance at Penn State Behrend is sponsored by the college’s Student Activity Fee, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Harriet Behrend Ninow Memorial Lecture Series Fund. For more information about his lecture, phone the Office of Student Activities at 814-898-6171.
