There are more than 10,000 students in Pennsylvania’s schools who have been diagnosed with autism or another pervasive developmental disorder. This course is designed to help educators, counselors, and parents integrate children with autism into typical-needs learning and social environments. Ed Nientimp, special education supervisor and autism consultant for the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit, will be the local instructor. “The students who took this course when we offered it last fall gave Ed rave reviews,” Barbara Hido, program coordinator for Continuing Education, said. “Each of them highly recommended it to anyone who teaches, provides support services for, or loves an autistic child.” “Students With Autism in Inclusive Settings” will meet from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays, March 1, 8 and 15, in 69 Kochel Academic Center on the campus of Penn State Behrend. Registration must be made by Friday, February 29; early registration is encouraged. The course can be taken for either two Act 48 graduate credits, or for noncredit personal development.
