Faculty/Staff News of Note August 2004 Dr. Dan Barnard, lecturer in music and director of the Music at Noon Series, has been chosen as an ASCAP Award recipient for 2004-2005. Awards are granted by an independent panel and based on the unique prestige value of each writer's catalog of original compositions and recent performances. Dr. Michael E. Brown, assistant professor of management, published an article "Managing to be ethical: Debunking five business ethics myths" in the journal Academy of Management Executives (May 2004). Brown also presented a paper at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting in New Orleans. The title of the presentation was "Assessing the content, convergent and discriminant validity of a new ethical leadership instrument." Terry Blakney, lecturer in statistics, attended the Joint Statistical Meetings in Toronto, Ontario, August 8-11. Carley Hopwood, lecturer in biology, completed the Genomics Course for Educators at The Institute in Genomics Research in Rockville, Maryland, August 9-13. Dr. Michael Campbell, associate professor of biology, presented two papers at the Plant Biology 2004 conference in Orlando Florida July 23-28. The papers were titled "A putative kinesin light chain alters plant growth and chloroplast movement," and "Gene expression changes associated with dormancy breakage by bromoethane in potato." David A. Skellie, coastal land use and economic specialist with Pennsylvania Sea Grant, has been appointed to the Lake Erie and Genesee Basin Regional Water Resource Committee by Governor Ed Rendell. The committee was created to oversee the regional component of the state water plan development and implemented under the Water Resources Planning Act of 2002. Welcome to Felicia Williams, newly appointed counselor in the Office of Admissions. She comes to Behrend from the GECAC Charter School, and her special emphasis will be recruitment of minorities.
