Dr. Charles A. Brown, assistant professor of accounting, presented "Order Effects on Auditor Materiality Judgments: The Impact of Qualitative Information" at the 2003 Audit Midyear Conference of the American Accounting Association, held January 16-18 in Huntington Beach, California.

Rich Englund, associate professor of mechanical engineering technology, and Dr. Robert Weissbach, assistant professor of electrical engineering technology, have had their article, "Interdisciplinary Laboratory Exercise for the Design and Construction of an LVDT Position Measurement System," published in the fall 2002 issue of the Journal of Engineering Technology.

Sharon M. Gallagher, lecturer in English, received a $400 Global Funds award that will defray the costs of leading a service learning project. She will lead Penn State Behrend students in doing conservation work and peace and justice work in Northern Ireland and in the Republic of Ireland during spring break this year.

Dr. Robert Gray, assistant professor of engineering, has joined the faculty team of the Center for Information and Communications Technology Research (CICTR) at Penn State. Gray's research focus is on navigation, communication, and information systems. He was recently welcomed to the center team by Mohsen Kavehrad, Ameritech Professor of Electrical Engineering at the CICTR.

As part of the iMBA-Penn State's only online MBA program-Dusty Hasselman, program specialist, and Dr. John Fizel, director, received the 2002 World Campus award for outstanding achievement by a management team. More about the iMBA can be found at www.worldcampus.psu.edu/imba.

Several mathematics professors in the School of Science traveled to the joint meetings of the American Mathematical Society and Mathematics Association of America, held in Baltimore, Maryland, January 14-18. Attending from Penn State Behrend were Dr. Paul Becker, assistant professor of mathematics; Dr. Lawrence M. Downey, assistant professor of mathematics, Ann Kraus, senior lecturer in mathematics; Paul D. Olson, lecturer in mathematics; Dr. Michelle Previte, assistant professor of mathematics; and Dr. Joseph Previte, assistant professor of mathematics.

Giselle Hudson, staff assistant in Financial Aid, has been selected to serve on the National Association of Veterans Program Administrators (NAVPA) board of directors. In addition, the board has elected her treasurer of the organization.

Dr. Darren Williams, assistant professor of physics and astronomy, has been invited to serve on a panel that will review proposals for the Planetary Astronomy Program at the National Science Foundation February 27 and 28 in Arlington, Virginia.

Dr. Ralph Ford, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, has been appointed to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Region 2 Steering Committee and is in charge of conference coordination for the region. Region 2 encompasses 21 sections spanning Delaware, New Jersey, Northern Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. .

Maria Madigan, coordinator of Greek Life and Student Leadership Programs, will be a speaker at Penn State's 2003 Service Leadership Conference. The conference, "Leading for Tomorrow, Conquering Stress Today," is set for Monday, February 10, at the Penn State Conference Center Hotel in University Park.

Ron Delporto, lecturer in computer science, and Carla Torgerson, instructional designer, presented a poster, "Applying Mastery Learning in the College Classroom," at the Lilly Conference on College Teaching. The conference was held November 21-24 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Dr. Diane Parente, assistant professor of management, recently attended the national meeting of the Decision Science Institute in San Diego. She presented several papers including "Business in the Engineering Curricula" co-authored with Ken Fisher, professor of engineering. She also presented "Late Bidding Behavior in Online Procurement Auctions," co-authored with Dr. John Fizel, Dr. Ido Millet, and Dr. Ray Venkataraman, all in the School of Business. Parente was also an invited panelist for a workshop on Technology in Services with Craig Froehle (University of Cincinnati) and Arthur Hill (University of Minnesota).

Dr. Peter B. Southard, assistant professor of management, had his article, "Community Banking in the e-Business Era," published in the Spring 2002 issue of the Journal of International Technology and Information Management. The article was co-authored by Keng Siau of the University of Nebraska.

Dr. Blair R. Tuttle, assistant professor of physics, is co-author of a chapter in the recently published Handbook of Nanoscience, Engineering and Technology. Published in November 2002, the book was edited by W.A. Gooddard, D.W. Brenner, S.E. Lyshevski, and G.J. Iafrate and published by CRC Press. The chapter Tuttle co-authored is titled "Modeling Electronics at the Non-scale." His co-authors on the chapter are N.R. Aluru, J.P. Leburton, W. McMahon, U. Ravaioli, S. Rotkin, M. Staedele, T. van der Straaten, and K. Hess.
