Dr. Chris Coulston, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, has had two of his papers accepted for publication in August 2001. His first paper, titled "Sequential Truncated Multiplication," will be published in the proceedings of the 44th Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems. Dr. Coulston is also the co-author of "A Hypertext Metric Based Huffman Coding," written by Dr. Theresa Vitolo, which will be publlished in the 12th Annual ACM Conference on Hypertext and Hypermedia.

Dr. Gregory W. Fowler, assistant professor of literature and American studies, has had two articles accepted for publication. The first, "Avoiding Pyrrhic Victories: On Technology," will be published in the Journal of Popular Culture. The second, "If I Warn't Too Drunk to Get There: On Race," is to be published in the Journal of American Culture by the American Culture Association.

Dr. Robert Gray, assistant professor of electrical engineering technology, and Dr. Thomas Henninger, associate professor of electrical engineering, will make a presentation at the November 2001 Artificial Networks in Engineering conference. Their paper is titled "Validating Digital Terrain Elevation Data with Neural Networks."

Dr. Victoria Kamerski, assistant professor of psychology, and Dr. Dawn Blasko, associate professor of psychology, along with undergraduate psychology majors Jessica Turos and Linda Kelso, presented a poster at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Society in Toronto, Canada, in June. Their project was titled "Does Handedness Influence Automatic Metaphor Processing?" It investigated the brain processes of right- and left-handed individuals as they comprehend language. Undergraduate students Amy and Ann Brown and graduate Lisa Henry also presented their research with Blasko at the meeting. Their research examined personality, demographic, and support factors influencing stress in first-year students. Their poster was titled "Do First-Year Seminars Influence College Adjustment and Success?"

Dr. Pamela Silver attended the Annual North American Benthological Society meeting in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, June 2-6. She presented two papers titled "Communicating Your Science Effectively in Talking and Posters," and Meiofauna Respond to Manipulation of the Arrangement and Quality of Resources in Streamless Landscapes."

Dr. James Sonnenmeier, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, presented "Flow Visualization Study on an HVAC Fan Module Operated in Water" at the Society of Automotive Engineers' Fifth Vehicle Thermal Management Systems Conference May 14-17 in Nashville, Tennessee. Co-authors of the paper are Asad Sardar, Air International, Inc.; William K. George, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden; and Scott Woodward, University of Buffalo. Dr. Sonnenmeier also attended the ABET Regional Faculty Workshop in Detroit, Michigan, June 2-3 with Dr. Chris Coulston.

The members of the Penn State Behrend Pep Band, led by Dr. Gary Viebranz, provided the prelude, postlude, and national anthem for the dedication of the new gazebo at the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home on June 10.

Dr. James T. Warren Jr., assistant professor of biology, participated in a mission trip to the Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf in Knockpatrick, Jamaica, June 2-10. There were a total of twenty-one people on the trip, including Penn State Behrend students Jessica Pendry, Dana Sailer, Kevin Andryc, and James Martin.
