Success Stories

MATT chose a technical career path as a freshman and had the advantage of a career focus in high school. He received a co-op job as a senior where his excellent work habits, determination to do a good job and ability to be a team player won him compliments from his boss and fellow workers. He was awarded a PEPP scholarship for his dedication and leadership. Matt and his parents credit PEPP for his success in meeting personal and academic challenges, thus giving him a strong start toward success in college.

RACHEL, an upbeat, friendly, B-average student, joined PEPP in 9th grade. When troubles at home escalated, she moved out on her own. Although her grades began to slip and she had to work to support herself, she never missed PEPP. She credits PEPP with being her only stability through a difficult time. To show her gratitude, she returned to tutor for PEPP after she graduated from high school and enrolled in college.

GARY entered PEPP in 6th grade with a low GPA. Things were not going well. He was in with the wrong crowd and his behavior and grades were suffering. His parents took control and gave teachers permission to make him do his homework during lunch. His grade point average more than doubled. He was proud of himself, found new PEPP friends, and never looked back!

EVAN was a bright boy but never did any work in school. He was loud and obnoxious and spent most of his time in after-school detention for his poor behavior. At the end of seventh grade his teachers recommended him to PEPP. They recognized his considerable academic potential but were concerned that he might get into trouble with the law. Evan took their advice and attended PEPP faithfully during eighth grade. The extra attention given to him by the tutors and mentors had a positive effect. His behavior and his grades changed dramatically. He joined the band and student council and received the eighth grade award for good citizenship. He hopes to one day become a famous pediatrician.

VINCE had always struggled with school. He joined PEPP as a freshman to get an extra boost to improve his reading and math skills. He wanted to be the first in his family to attend college. Over his four years, he had a hard time keeping himself motivated when he found a subject challenging. His grades were good one semester and failing the next. However, to his credit, he regularly came to the PEPP staff for extra help. In his senior year, he applied to college and was accepted. His perseverance paid off. He is enrolled in college studying pre-law.
