L quote (Assistant professor of English and professional writing) Craig Warren helped me realize reading is not a bad thing--words I never thought could come out of my mouth! Being well-read gives you more to talk about, which is important, given the diversity of the world we live in. R quote

Coming from the always-sunny Caribbean, Miles Boyea says he’s frequently asked Why did you attend college in Pennsylvania? “It’s a question I’ll never be able to answer,” he says with a laugh, “but the people are very friendly, and seeing all four seasons in two days it has been a wonderful experience.”

A varsity tennis player and the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference 2006 Men’s Tennis Player of the Year, Boyea finds that the student-athlete workload is more than manageable “as long as I apply myself. All the help and support I could imagine is provided by my professors. I just have to ask.”

Boyea added that another benefit of a small-college atmosphere “is that it allows students to develop their communication and social skills, because you have no choice but to interact with other. The best relationships I’ve developed are with people from the tennis team. We have a great time traveling together and helping each other when things get tough.”

After obtaining his accounting degree, “I plan to return to the Caribbean and be a successful businessman,” Boyea says. “Penn State Behrend provides the information necessary for me to take the correct steps. I just have to utilize it.”
