Special Service Awards

These student awards are provided by the Penn State Behrend Faculty Council.  The nomination process begins in the fall semester and continues throughout the spring when awards are conferred at the annual Honors and Awards Convocation in April.

Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges

This distinction recognizes on a national level those upper-division students whose academic standing, participation in co-curricular activities, and community service are decidedly noteworthy.  Penn State Behrend recipients are chosen by a committee of students, faculty, and staff.  Nominations accepted through the Penn State Behrend Office of Student Activities in October/November.

College-wide awards are listed below

The College-wide award nomination form must be completed and submitted to Dianna Morris, Reed Union Building.

THIS AREA FOR STUDENTS NOMINATED:

Students nominated for the College-wide awards must complete this nomination packet, submit a resume and an unofficial transcript.  These items must be submitted to the Office of Student Activities no later than Friday, February 29.  

Outstanding First-Year Student Award

This award recognizes a first-year student who demonstrates outstanding promise of character, scholarship, leadership, and citizenship through achievements in his or her first year of study.  Nominations accepted through the Penn State Behrend Office of Student Activities in January/February.

Irvin H. Kochel Award

This award is presented annually to an outstanding underclassman/woman at Penn State Behrend.  Nominees must demonstrate outstanding qualities of character, scholarship, leadership, and citizenship through their involvement in programs and services that positively influence fellow students and have contributed to the college community.  Nominations accepted through the Penn State Behrend Office of Student Activities in January/February.

Thomas H. Turnbull Award

This award is presented annually to a Penn State Behrend student who has contributed to the college community through outstanding qualities of character, scholarship, leadership, and citizenship.  Outstanding service is the most important criterion for selection.  Nominations accepted through the Penn State Behrend Office of Student Activities in January/February.

T. Reed Ferguson Award

This award recognizes a junior who has demonstrated scholarship, leadership and citizenship that has impacted fellow students through his or her academic and out-of-class involvement and gives promise of further achievement in the senior year.  Nominations accepted through the Penn State Behrend Office of Student Activities in January/February.

Eric A. and Josephine S. Walker Award

This award recognizes students whose outstanding qualities of character, scholarship, leadership, and citizenship have been directed into student programs and services.  All Penn State Behrend students of sophomore standing and above are eligible.  Scholarship is a primary criterion for selection in tandem with a record of outstanding service to the college. Nominations accepted through the Penn State Behrend Office of Student Activities in January/February.
